I wonder if Dr Lazarus can play a harp the way Mr Spock surprised us with his harp skills?

In any case,I love to see a pub hopping with good cheer and lots of laughter and Quellecks has both today. I'll still pass on the green beer..but then,I pass on amber beer as well. Keep filling my glass with vodka and tonic,lads...lots of limes too. It's the only green for me even on St Paddy's Day.

I can't tell if those chocolate concoctions are filled brownies or enormous Nanaimo bars but they look delicious. And they go better with vodka than beer any day.

Oooo, yummy brownies! So glad to see those!

Not a fan of the green beer. Not a fan of any beer, More for those who do imbibe! I'll have a Disarono on ice actually. George will have a Guiness.

Alex didn't go with the green beer either. Apparently Dr. L has been chatting with Aberforth who graciously provided his mint latte recipe. It's definitely a winner, especially on a chilly evening.

Love Sev making the rainbow magic. Perhaps MMD will treat us to some Irish tunes on Dr L's harp to wind up the festivities if we ask nicely?

Perhaps a duet with Dr L & MMD? Could be amazing! Have to see if Dr is up for it!

I'm dragging my George home, he's getting to the point where he 'lovesh eveybodhy', or something like that. Have fun all!

New pic of Alan with his new shorter haircut. Looking good (even if the underside of his jacket collar doesn't match Rolling Eyes )

Newly posted Seminar backstage video has a couple of nice Alan moments.

Forbes does a bit of Alan spotting at the after party for last night's Broadway opening of Once:
At the party: Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Rickman, but mostly I was interested in catching up with Hansard and Irklova.

There's a fun video excerpt from the soon-to-be-released HP Wizard's Collection featuring Rupert and Alan that was just uploaded yesterday. Cute!

Alan Rickman - Something the Lord Made - Part 2 - Page 15 Seminar159-3-23-12
Nice stage door pic by an unknown photog.

The New Yorker reports:
ST. MALACHY’S—THE ACTORS’ CHAPEL
TIPA (Toward International Peace Through the Arts), the work of the activist and literature lover Stan Tannen, presents a tribute to Charles Dickens, in celebration of the two-hundredth anniversary of his birth. Alan Rickman, Fritz Weaver, Frances Sternhagen, and other actors will read from “David Copperfield,” “Bleak House,” and other classic works. (239 W. 49th St. No tickets necessary. March 30 at 2.)
Arrow ** added 3/31 ** Video excerpts of the Dickens event.

RHPoT must be running in England this week. The Liverpool Echo says:
Alan Rickman steals the show with his top drawer panto villain turn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Don't get too bogged down with the history, or the geography. Bizarrely, Robin travels from Dover to Nottingham via Hadrian’s Wall – a great popular hero but a lousy navigator.

Rickman told co-star Geraldine McEwan he wanted to make a sequel centering on his much-loved villain. A shame it never happened.
While Metro (UK) says:
FILM CHOICE: Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, C5, 9pm
This 1990s take on the hero in tights has attained legend status, mainly by making ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’ by Bryan Adams a fixture on umpteen wedding playlists. Thanks for that. Otherwise, the retold story is comfortingly familiar. Kevin Costner does a sturdy job as Robin while Alan Rickman caddishly steals his thunder as a magnificently boo-hiss Sheriff of Nottingham. Radical at the time for a point of view shot of a speeding arrow: look, that was amazing stuff back then
Teeny glimpse of Alan in "Gambit" in a 2012 British films preview.

The Daily Mail has another writeup on Alan's role in getting actor Dexter Fletcher back on track. Excerpt:
It was only a chance meeting with old friend and actor Alan Rickman that saved him from oblivion. Dexter recalls, ‘I was still going out with Julia and I saw Alan at a recording of Absolutely Fabulous. I hadn’t seen him for ages. He could see I was in a bad way.’

Rickman encouraged him to work with Lithuanian theatre director Dalia Ibelhauptaite in a tiny theatre in Islington.

‘At first I thought I couldn’t do it,’ says Fletcher. ‘Another aspect of being a child actor is you start to doubt your own abilities. I hadn’t studied the craft, I did it by instinct, so I had to go back to square one.
When I met Dalia I was a complete wastrel and she turned everything around. Once I got back on stage I began to believe in myself again, and that broke the cycle of addiction. I managed to chuck the drugs . . . and fall in love with Dalia at the same time. Turns out going bankrupt was the right move for me.’

They married at Marylebone Register Office in 1997, with Alan Rickman as best man.
**added 4/1/12** Today's Huntingdon People reports:
It has been confirmed today (01/04/2012) that Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun, Pirates of the Caribbean) and his team are to make a blockbuster account of the life of Oliver Cromwell with filming due to start in the summer. Much of the filming will be locally and the producers will be looking for local people to play their part in the movie, including hundreds of local people to be hired as extras for battle and crowd scenes.

So far it is reported that Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons have been lined up to play the older Oliver Cromwell and King Charles I respectively, but they have yet to cast many of the parts of Cromwell's early life including the young Cromwell and producer Bruckheimer has suggested they would like someone new, unknown and local to the area to play the part. So this might be the opportunity of a lifetime for one lucky Huntingdon teenager.

Alan Rickman - Something the Lord Made - Part 2 - Page 15 DickensReading

Alan at the Dickens reading. (photog unknown)

Next scheduled Alan appearance is today (Apr. 3) as Playbill reports:
The Flea Theater presents a reading of Hamish Linklater's The Vandal April 3 at The Museum of Jewish Heritage.

The reading features the talents of Golden Globe winners Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman and Outer Critics Circle nominee Noah Robbins. Flea artistic director Jim Simpson directs.
And then we'll enter into an Alan drought for a while till he pops back on to the radar! Sad

Jeff Goldblum comments on following Alan in Seminar:
Are you nervous about taking over for Alan Rickman?

Those are big shoes, those are enormous, gigantic, Herculean shoes and he’s spectacular and you know, I’m, I’m...

Spectacular, too.

Well, bless your heart. I’m humbled but excited, and trying to put my best foot forward.
Updated link to the Dickens reading. (The poster pulled it from youtube.)

And here's the last Seminar stagedoor video. 'Twas nice to see Alan pretty much every day for months!

Quoted in the NY Post's article on stars attending a promo for Frank Langella's new book, Alan reveals he is indeed "one of us" Wink :
SPEAKING of stars, a crate of them crowded The Plaza Athenee for Frank Langella’s new book “Dropped Names.” . . .
Alan Rickman on a new movie he’s made: “Can’t remember the title. Listen, I can’t remember where I was yesterday.”
The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts has an Alan self-portait among those it will be auctioning off in a fundraiser. Would be lovely to have, but I know I'm already outbid before even starting!

Well bust my buttons! I do love that self portrait! Wonder if we could scrounge out pennies, put them together & come up with a downpayment? Or if the buyer might be talked into raffling it off? I'd share the right to it, and we could each take a quarter of the year or something to ship it back & forth!

He does look a might uncomfortable around the fuzzies, didn't think about the possible uses aspect.

Hoppy easter! :easter2:

Here's one of the last stagedoor photos from Alan's Seminar run, taken as he was waving goodbye after his final performance.

MMD... cute, and no, not mine! I did, however, do this one for the Jerry Lacy page so can't say the thought might not have occurred to me. *snicker*

The Washington Square news offers a mini review of Alan in Seminar:
A truly great performer can give a powerful performance without stifling the rest of the production. Alan Rickman, during his recent stint in Theresa Rebeck's "Seminar," did so with grace. In the expert hands of director Sam Gold, the show could be appreciated for its whole concept — five impressive actors, a sweeping set and, of course, Rebeck's dynamic writing.

Alan at last night's (4/12) BAM 150 Gala.

The Mail Online offers a nice insight into Alan's nature in a difficult situation:
Professor Snape saved my life: Anna Chancellor on the night she was struck down with meningitis – and how Alan Rickman came to the rescue...

Anna, 46, was appearing in Creditors in New York, directed by Alan Rickman – Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films – when she woke up in the middle of the night ‘with this incredible headache'.

'I ransacked the flat. I was desperate, like a junkie, to find some painkillers. I found some and went back to bed thinking, “They’re going to kick in soon.” Nothing. It just got more and more intense. I hadn’t been in that much pain since I was in labour. I rushed to the loo and was sick. So I called Alan. He said, “Come now.” Other theatre directors aren’t like that.

‘I got to his flat and was sick everywhere, so he and his partner Rima took me to hospital. Poor Alan. I was meant to be on stage that night. He was pacing the floor as it became clear I had to have brain scans.’ Did she panic? ‘When you’re in that much pain, you’re just dealing with that. It was worse for Alan and Rima. They were so sweet. I’ll never forget that.

Maxe... agreed! Being in an Alan drought is not fun! He seems to be hanging around New York for the time being, supporting his Seminar co-stars at their functions and seeing some plays. One fan at the Seminar stage door asked him what he would be doing next, and he replied "Filming". Then asked whether he'd be acting or directing, he responded, "Both". Very wordy, our man! He does like being a man of mystery.

Re the Jerry Lacy pic, I do have fun with Jerry. I used to do actual drawn cartoons for his club journal (we're talking back in the dark ages before the internet), and now I'm doing occasional photoshopped cartoons to get a chuckle. So I've been poking fun at him for over 40 years now! affraid I started again at New Year's with a photoshop of him as the new year's baby, and have been doing at least one a month for his fb page since then. Jerry has a wonderful sense of humor and loves the cartoons, whatever the methods may be. I brought a sketch pad to one Dark Shadows convention (many years ago) and was drawing cartoons as Jerry was participating in a panel discussion. After the event, he zipped over to badger me to show him what I'd been drawing... so I got first hand feedback, including my favorite, "How did you know what I was thinking?", which was a lot of fun. Now the comments are on fb, but he's still chuckling.

(4/23) Cute one-liner from Mania.com's weekly tv listing:
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (IFC, 10:00 PM EST)
Alan Rickman really can do no wrong, can he?

Alan at the Art NY Gala.

Well, the oddsmakers don't favor Alan as the winner, but it's surely nice that he has been nominated as Best Actor for "Seminar" by the Drama League. Hollywood.com reports:
Carey Mulligan & Kevin Spacey named among Drama League nominees
The An Education star joins other big Hollywood names, like Kevin Spacey, Jesse Eisenberg, Alan Rickman and Matthew Broderick among this year's (12) hopefuls, while Ricky Martin has been recognised for his role as Che Guevara in Evita. . . .
Clybourne Park, The Columnist, The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, The Lyons, One Man, Two Guvnors, Other Desert Cities, Peter and The Starcatcher, Tribes, Seminar, Septimus and Clarissa and Venus in Fur will compete for the Distinguished Production of a Play trophy...

Harry is bringing some flowers for those not feeling up to par lately.

Welcome, Dazlious394! Have loved your Seminar photos over on Page 394 and have certainly tried to give you photo credit here when I've reposted your pics. (I try to do photo credits wherever I know the source!) The Alan drought is certainly upon all of us. In the past this has been time for an adventure in Alanland here in our Alan appreciation thread; however, several of our usual participants have been under the weather of late, so it's been rather quiet. At the very least, those of left standing are hereby duly invited down to Quellek's Pub for some socializing! And there are a lot of other interesting places here for conversation and discussion on other threads. My personal second favorite is the Hog's Head where you can drop in for an elf-made meal and chat with other folks.

Alan Rickman - Something the Lord Made - Part 2 - Page 15 QuelleksPub

FYI, Alanland is a land in which all of Alan's characters from film, tv, stage, radio or even photoshoots, have real, individual lives. The more lethal characters are no longer lethal, just edgy. We've had a lot of fun parties and events beginning back on HPANA where Alanland began. It has a lengthy history!
