Movies You've Seen - Page 2 Empty Re: Movies You've Seen

Post  missypotter Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:31 pm

I my efforts to stay cool this weekend I decided to go to the movies. Nothing particularly sounded good, but I decided the new (sort of) Spiderman would keep me mildly entertained without the darkness of Batman or the, ugh, Diary of a Whimpy Kid.Rolling Eyes

Anyway I have to say I LOVED this movie!!! I tolerated the Spiderman movies of the past particularly hating the girl (love interest). Well they changed this enough that it was so enjoyable. Fist off Peter Parker was adorable.I love you The greatest part was the new love interest. She was smart, beautiful, helpful, brave and just what a young lady should be (although her skirts were a little short most of the time).

Well I would love to go see it again should the weather get hot again, but I will probably buy it and throw away my old Spiderman movies. Laughing

Hunger Games was pretty meh. Not special, and lacked the tension of the novel, even when you know the ending. But it has Donald Sutherland in it.

Cabin in the Woods is awesomely creepy, interesting twist on the formula horror movie.

I've started watching 24 ... never saw it when it was on. It's quite exciting, although I already predicted two main plot twists.

Inheritance - on netflix instant. it's a documentary about Amon Goeth's daughter (yes, the one from Schindler's List) meeting survivors.

Sound and Fury - documentary about two brothers, one deaf, one hearing, both with deaf children and their struggles over the decision about whether to get cochlear implants for their children. It gives a lot of information about deaf culture and deaf identity.

Watched The Vow it was pretty good and was surprised to find that it was inspired by a true story.

Caught most of Cowboys and Aliens definitely not my kind of movie, thought I'm sure there are those who really enjoy that kind of thing.

Saw "Frankenweenie" with the family. I'm a Tim Burton It was cute, but something seemed missing in the story. The movie was filmed in Black & White which gives it a neat look & feel. Something "light" to see for Halloween.

Love it when the do interesting things with the filming. Makes some movies so much better.
Though I'm not a Tim Burton fan he is creative to say the least.

Watched The Avengers (super heroes not the spy one) with my nephew it was actually good for the type.

Movies You've Seen - Page 2 Empty First time Bond

I just saw Skyfall and liked it very much. I will try and see the last couple of movies based on this. Plus Judi Dench Cool

I didn't see any of the old Bond movies, I was a little put off by some of the names 'Pussy Galore' Octopussy' etc.

Ha ha,well, those were very racy names at the time, rainsom and I think Pussy Galore is straight from the novels.I didn't read many of them...not into spy novels and they were very disrespectful to women.
(My dad found my copy of From Russia With Love and threw it away) Different times and different levels of vulgarity.

I enjoyed the old Sean Connery Bond and adore Daniel Craig...some of the others were pretty silly with all the gimicks and special effects.

I'd watch anything with Judy Dench.

Not a big Bond fan myself but have watched them with Mom. As far as I can tell the best ever was Sean Connery. I agree the names and treatment of women are not the nicest. Never read any of the books.

Read most of the Bond novels back when it was forbidden to do so,( hiding it behind a book in class) the women were love (lust) objects only but they were spy thrillers at their best! Then they started doing the movies, Sean Connery being one of many and still to this day my all time favorite Bond! Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are right up there! I loved Sky fall, and can only hope they can keep Bond alive for another 50 years!

Laughing Laughing My dad found my copy of From Russia With Love, and threw it away! Got another copy to finish it.

Women weren't treated very well in the books but it was a different time and genre. Women in spy novels used themselves as bait or whatever to keep the tension going. Just fantasy.

Have now seen:
The Lucky One, I have to say it was a pleasant surprise, actually liked it.

Warhorse, not what I thought but it was ok.

Marigold Hotel, absolutely bored me I don't recommend it.

Tried to watch 5 Year Engagement too crass for my taste so shut it off after about ten minutes or so.

Journey 2 (starring Duane Johnson aka The Rock) had some funny bits but I preferred part one with Brendan Fraser. Odd since I do think Mr. Johnson is very easy on the eyes.

As for Bond haven't seen one in a while. Did get a copy of Casino Royale ages ago, not my taste so gave it to Mom who loved it.

I don't know if this falls under movies or television. A friend of mine gave me a BBC series (season one) called "Call the Midwife". I really loved it. It is about a group of nurses/midwives who live with nuns who I think are also nurses.

The setting is East London in about 1955. It is interesting that they are all very poor and not the 1955s of America. It shows how socialized medicine helps some of the people, but these poor ladies just have baby after baby after baby. Very interesting to show all of their lives.

Any way I would recommend it to everyone. But I would start at the beginning so you understand all the details of each character.

cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers That is 5 thumbs up. Very Happy

I managed to watch Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise the other night. All I can say is if you haven't already seen it don't. I was happy with the music but there are several scenes that were to over the top vulgar for my taste.

I've also been watching Call the Midwife on Netflix. It's quite wonderful, even if they overdo the "ooh, look, that pregnant woman is smoking and drinking, weren't they dumb!" thing.

I made a terrible mistake this weekend. I watched two movies that were just awful ... the Chernobyl Diaries and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Ladyhawke I've read the description for the Chernobyl Diaries and didn't think it something I would like. Saw previews of the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter one and just can't bring myself to watch it either. I mean Abraham Lincoln hunting vampires confused just doesn't sound right to me.
Never heard of the midwife show.

I re-watched a movie called Simply Irresistible the other day. It's a cute little romantic comedy that you can watch without having to send the kids out of the room. Been to busy to watch much at all lately though.

I've recently managed to watch The Life of Pi was not impressed with it but I don't like flash back movies so that is possibly why.
Saw Cloud Atlas last night and same problem to much switching although I did follow it better. Parental Guidance turned out better than I thought, Bette Midler and Billy Crystal with Marisa Tomei as their daughter, lots of laughs. Oz was ok but didn't have the brilliance of the Wizard of Oz. Did love all the color though, that was well done. I'm really underwhelmed by the movies these days. Not sure why but they just aren't as good as they used to be.

I haven't seen a film in a theatre since DH2!!!!  I can get better seats with more quiet at home and so far nothing has come out I needed to see right away.
I think so much is spent on special effects and CG that stories and character development is no longer deemed important...I like old films where clever dialog, great costuming and music set the stage (though I loved all the Lord of the Rings films and they were loaded with CG)

Thanks for the heads up,Weesa. I won't bother checking out Oz unless nothing else is on. that is the one with James Franco? Not impressed by him very much.

Same here DH2 is the last time I was in a theater. Yep James Franco plays Oz in this one. I am not overly impressed by him either, there seems to be something lacking in his acting skills. I agree technology seems to have injured the industries creativity somehow, not sure how it can recover but I wish it would. The era of remakes we are in is awful to say the least, not to mention all the terribly vulgar stuff they release.

Not into remakes at all...I don't even like directors going back and redoing their own work.... i.e. George Luca redoing Jabba the Hut images in later reissues of Star Wars....I like cheesy...it's honest for the work at the time.... or Ridley Scott constantly playing with the editing of Blade Runner...even Da Vinci put his brush down at some point.

Finally got around to buying a couple blue-ray discs for my new player (I've actually had it a year, just too busy...) Watched The Hobbit and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Both excellent. Loved Radagast in TH and ST:ID was good. Hope they add to the series.

Looking forward to Hobbit part 2

Watched Perks of Being A Wallflower and was not thrilled with the story itself, was not at all what I expected from the trailers I remember seeing. Do have to say that it was odd seeing Emma in a role other than Hermione, thought she did well with the part she had.

Weesa,I recorded it a couple of weeks ago but have yet to watch it.  I have to be in the mood to watch a film filled with young people (HP being quite the exception,of course)

I think Emma Watson is very beautiful. I liked watching her grow up on film but the movie makers hid her beauty well...a gorgeous Hermione,as well as intelligent and clever, would have upset the balance of the trio. I always hated the hideous striped shirts and sweaters she wore in the films. Would rather have seen her and the others in their school robes.
Always thought the introduction of muggle clothing took something magical away from Hogwarts.

Maxe, I just read your comment about the muggle clothing and immediately looked for the "like" button. I miss having those here. Anyway I agree totally. Even if they wore muggle clothes under their robes, they should always have their robes on at school. Cool

Yep Emma is a beauty, it's nice they down played it in all the HP movies. I agree they should have worn their school robes in the movies, it would have enhanced the magical feel of the films.

I miss the like button at times too, wish the host was able to fix that but no such luck at this time.
