Outlander Series
Ok while waiting for one of the HP books to come out I found this series by Diana Gabaldon and fell in love with the characters. There's a lot of history written into the books as well which is also something I enjoy. As well as the main series of books (she's currently writing the eighth) there is a side series that goes with it called The Lord John Grey Series. She has also written a companion guide that follows the first four books and will publish a second to go with the remaining, in addition to a graphic novel based on the series. While they are huge books they are well worth the time it takes to read them. For those interested here's a title list of the main series.
1.OUTLANDER, 2.DRAGONFLY IN AMBER, 3. VOYAGER, 4.DRUMS OF AUTUMN, 5.THE FIERY CROSS,
6.A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES, 7.AN ECHO IN THE BONE

Re: Outlander Series
The Outlander series brings an interesting perspective to the plight of the time traveler, who, while well aware of modern conveniences and advancements, must adjust to the world that exists before they are even dreamed of. Quite the enjoyable read.

Re: Outlander Series
Nice to find someone else who's read these. Finished reading the companion book to the first four books today and the author's theory on time travel is really interesting. Had to laugh at the part where she comments that there will only be two more books, making it a series of six, considering that she is now working on the eighth book. I'm growing pretty impatient with waiting on the next installment, which is currently projected for release next year.

Re: Outlander Series
You aren't alone Weesa I have read all of them as well, got a little tired of the Lord John Grey books but, throughly enjoyed the others! I really liked how completely she researched the use of herbs, for her medicines and what it would be like to find yourself somewhere you knew nothing about! Probably easier to go back than forward how ever!

Actually the reason she states for having Claire go back so far is that she wanted to be able to give her an occupation that would benefit her and so that when went forward again it wouldn't be ahead of our time, so she is only writing about the past and "present" not the future. If that makes any sense, she put it better when she explained it in the Outlandish Companion.
I like Lord John so I haven't tired of his side series and I really enjoy the bits where we get extra snippets of Jamie. Speaking of Jamie her latest in the Lord John Series is coming out Novemeber 29th it's Lord John and The Scottish Prisoner, it should be full of Jamie moments.
Love her research results but, wish it didn't take her so long to do it. Oh did you know there are actually warnings put into some of the earlier works because the publishers didn't want to be responsible for people trying the old remedies and having bad reactions to them?
UPDATE: Saw on her blog that book eight now has a title it's to be called "Written With My Own Heart's Blood" and to make it even more confusing she wants an octopus on the cover

Re: Outlander Series
Samtibbs I've been meaning to ask if you got the chance to read WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD (book 8 in the main series)? She's also released some new Lord John stories, a prequel about Roger's parents, and a novella about Michael Murray (young Ian's brother) and Joan MacKimmie (Marsali's sister). Right now is the waiting period for book nine in the main series.
