Post  Karentia Sun Mar 09, 2014 11:53 pm

I thought we could trade tips and chat about our dragons here, so not to overwhelm or disgruntle the others who are not into the game?

I am curious about the 'buildings' like the fountain of youth? What is that all about? And the other huts? Something about giving the dragons a place to rest? Do tell please!

I am glad to finally be able to play regularly. I figured out if I just go in for a few minutes in there at a time, long enough to breed, feed and visit, then off. I can get a lot done in a few minutes! Just happy to be breeding something different now other than just the poison and flower eggs. Still get loads of them, but I bred my own hail! Yay!

Happy breeding!

Oh, and I did get a coliseum! Have my lightening dragon in there - not sure why I chose him, sure does take a long time for that game....

Good idea Karentia!

As a beginner, I have a question. So you are supposed to clear the trees and rocks, then build a garden and abodes for dragons?

Karentia you need 24 hours for the coliseum and you stand a better chance at getting a medal and the points, monet etc that goes with it if you match the dragon with the challenge for the day/ plant to plant chak0llenge, fire to fire and so on,most of the huts and such are decorations for your visitors that come see your islands, the fountain of youth allows a dragon to be turned back into a baby but keep at the level he was when he was an adult, some people don't like the  adult forms so they use it and still have the adult abilities!

MMD yes you clear out the rocks and trees, buy habitats in the market buy the first few eggs there as well, say a fire, air, earth, then you can breed them once you feed them enough to grow to level 10, sign in under Fb and you can link to karentia, maxie and myself, yuo have to grow food building, also available at the market, if you link to us you will get gems from us daily, gused for buying lots of stuff, hope this helps, see you there

Karentia brilliant idea to start a thread for this. I play the game several times a day usually while doing something else. I just pop in hatch or sell as needed start breeding and collect/grow food and collect coins. I only have one person to visit so that doesn't long at all. I've used the fountain of youth on a couple dragons just to have a variety, but I enjoy all the dragons no matter how they look all grown up.

MMD feel to ask questions any time. Samtibbs has explained everything great.

There are two buildings that are useful one is a storage tower to store extra decorations in that you don't want to display. The other is the hibernation cave, it allows you to store extra dragons that won't fit in your habitats.

Can't think of anything else at the moment, been extra busy today so haven't had a chance to pop in on mine yet.

There is a handy breeding guide online here. There is also an app called Breeding Guide for Dragonvale (made by Let It Guide) in both Google Play and iTunes. The app allows you to keep track of which dragons you already have and has some other neat features. I use the free version but if you want to you can upgrade to the paid to get more features, personally I don't need the extras but some might like them.

Awesome! Glad this is being well received!

Perfect Weesa, that was what I needed to know. I don't feel like taking any of the dragons back to babies in their looks, not yet anyway. I will pick up the hibernation spot sooner or later.

I'm just glad to have a second island! Just had my first game done, but I don't have a water dragon yet, which is what if was filled with... still got a bronze medal!

OK, my question is aimed more at the 'boost' buildings - fire, earth, water, etc. What do they do? scratch

Karentia the buildings seem to give the dragons more abilities as to being able to breed the more difficult hybreds and the statues for fire, plant ,earth etc can be up graded to allow your dragons to be fed to the higher levels, the farms can be upgraded as well and will produce more food each time you plant and the habitats can be either purchased or up graded to giant, some of my smaller habitats I have sold and then bought the upgradable larger sizes, hope this helps!

finally got a carnival yesterday now trying for a celtic and a clover, do love this game!

MMD when you do log in under FB make sure you add Karentia, Maxie and I on your friends list that way we can give you gems every day!

Be careful about placement of your habitats and boosts...if you get a boost for fire, let's say and that habitat is close to cold..the boosting power of the hut will be negated or even power taken from the habitat...each boosting hut will tell you what increases and what decreases power.

When you clear off your island and when you add buildings and decorations you get points that increase your level...took me forever (and samtibbs) to understand what the xp meant...experience points, I believe.

I'll gather up my breeding experiments and post them when I can type better..I only sell my duplicates..some of the tasks at the Colosseum and Perch require a variety of dragons for best results.

I'd rather exchange ideas with people I know than strangers on a forum. Very Happy
Still haven't bred a sun or moon. Is it worth going for the gemstone island and dragons if you can't get a basic sun?

Morning all

Maxie well I bred my love and my storm and ended up getting another rainbow, so that is one combination you might try if you have these dragons, I never know what I am going to get when I start breeding different ones, I was trying for a Celtic, oh well it will give me loads of cash when I sell him, finally went through and put the right boosts with the islands and moved my habitats around I had forgotten all about the negative effects, thanks for the reminder maxie now maybe my dragons will start doing what I want them too! About half the time I am trying for one kind of a dragon I get something else and several times it wasn't what I planned for but if you have the habitats available then it doesn't matter what you get and you aren't scrabbling to get a place for your more unusual dragons to live, both my sun, moon and rainbow dragons were gotten trying to get something else so don't give up!

I am about to the 800, 000, 000 mark trying to raise a billion to buy my 10th island so I am almost there seems harder now than the first 500 million did.

Have a wonderful day all!

do you remember how you got the Storm? and did you get the more exotic with higher level dragon? Once you get past level 11 or so it's so expensive to feed the little devils. Not sure which dragons are worth feeding up...so many of the dragons I could use for the race track or Perch are not available anymore. I'm stuck with one piece left to fill in the Perch.

I'm stuck between frustrated and obsessed. that's OCD for you!!!!

I am frustrated with wanting to get more food for my dragons, but it costs so much to buy feed, and the time. Men, free games, just have to be patient and bide my time.

Thanks for the tip on placement - I can move a few around.

Funny, I grow the food & try to hold onto it long enough to feed a big dragon, then Nicole and dime it down between the others. Later!

Morning all

I am thrilled I got a Sakura first try with a flower and a tree, still trying for a Celtic and a clover it would be so nice if it just grew one or two different ones from each combo but then I wouldn't have as much money towards my 10 island,

Maxie you were wondering how much you have to spend to get a million food, sometimes I will spend 20 or 30 million to get what I want, but if I am saving money like now I have a huge collection of babies floating around and will only raise them beyond level 10 if I need them to breed something special, I have to keep trying for the special ones don't always get them but fun to try and sometimes I will get them the last day they are available, need to buy some new habitats but waiting to get my new island to do that, remember breeding ones you don't need often makes a great source for income along with harvesting your habitats.

So I double checked the sun is cold and lightening or firefly and cold, and must be bred between 7am and 7pm, otherwise you might get a moon, don't give up like I said I had my rainbow habitat for nearly 6 months before I had anything to put in it and now I get a rainbow at least once a month to sell, mostly have fun!

Don't forget to visit friends islands when you give them the gifts and click on the party hats it gives you more money!

Have fun!

Finally found a way to sign in!!!!! And had a chance to visit your island,Samtibbs. Wow! When you built up your islands did you go back and change your earlier ones? Yours are so lush. I love those exotic dragons...they are beautiful. How did you acquire that many food treats???? My dragons would storm the storage house.
Trying for a Sakura...from a tip about using Plant Metal and Fire..I've used a Malachite and Fire breeding. What did you use? I keep thinking my highest dragon levels (12-13) are still too low to breed the better dragons but I'm not sure which dragons to raise up first. I haven't found a general guide about these things... Sad .

Karentia the boost buildings increasing/decreasing things is the main reason I have my habitats set up the way I do on separate islands. Took me awhile to realize that it was having any effect at all. I keep blushrooms planted multiple times a day, only planting the more expensive foods when I get low on food or when I have a few new dragons to feed up all at once. It helps that you get food as a prize from the races sometimes too.

Maxecat I had a few gemstone dragons before I ever got my first sun. It seemed to take forever but I finally managed. It's not supposed to matter what level the dragons are when breeding. I fed all of the basic dragons and just a few of the others up to level 15 so far. I need to check again what the little thing over their heads is supposed to be for because I hate getting low on food and not being able to feed new dragons as they hatch. I do know the higher the dragons levels the faster the habitat collects money. Use a Flower and Tree to get the Sakura according to the breeding guide. I sell duplicates to make money.

Samtibbs I got the Celtic dragon, trying for a Clover and Lapiz now. I think it's going to take me a good while to get to that $1 billion. I have been making time the past couple days to add paths and the new decorations to my islands. Think I have one pathless island left at the moment.  Will switch the Lapiz attempt to Sakura since it won't be available as long.

Once I finish with my redecorating I'll post the pics here for y'all to see.

Here's the list for how to get the best results in races:
Blast Furnace   -     Forge Dragon, Brass Dragon, Gold Dragon

Cherry Road   -     Sakura Dragon, Paper Dragon

Dramoria           -       Steel Dragon, Mine Dragon, Silver Dragon

Electric Skies    -    Sonic Dragon

Marshlands   -     Seaweed Dragon, Swamp Dragon

Rime or Reason     -   Snow Dragon

Shimmering Faultline - Quake Dragon, Crystal Dragon

Ulster Meadows - Tree Dragon, Moss Dragon, Clover Dragon

Year of the Dragon -  Panlong Dragon, Firework Dragon, Leap Year Dragon

Maxie yep I spent some time yesterday rearranging my habitats so they were with their boosts and all in the same place and with compatible habitats as well, fun to rearrange now and again! I get lots of treats by buying them with lots of dragoncash, but now i have lots of babies because I am saving, I used a flower and a tree to get my sakura, none of my dragons are above a level 15 and anything above a 10 is enough to breed the more exotic dragons, but I have found a 15 to be a good level for most anything, I think the guide Weesa sent us the link to is fairly accurate and you don't have to wade through the posts of people with too much real cash and little patience, remember the most important thing is to have fun and don't worry duplicates can always be sold for more cash to buy the treats to grow your favorites, have a super day !

Thanks for the extra info in the race track ...I don't have a lot of the dragons best suited..and right now my 'trigger' finger is too swollen for good use tapping those racing beasties. Now that I have a storage tower it'll be easier to rearrange the islands as I put in bigger or more habitats. I still try to imagine myself visiting and what I'd like to see. No bathrooms needed in Dragonvale!

Yipee, I just got a Celtic now I am back trying to get a lapis and a clover just wish it didn't take so long to breed and hatch some of them,

Weesa thanks for the hints on the races, when I am back to spending money will have to give some of them a try, if you discover something about the floating ball above their heads make sure you let us know, I sorta feel like the early gamers did when they discovered new techniques, at least we are earning points and such by playing not because we have enough real money to buy all of the dragons and such.

Have a super day all!

I could use a Clover for the Perch tasks...any tips? I thought the bubbles indicated the level 10 or 11. Every time I'm tempted to buy 2000 gems to pay for a sun, I think of what I could buy to wear or read.
Wish I had started when you and Weesa started, wouldn't feel so far behind....how many levels are there, anyway???

Yeah, don't want to buy gems myself either, earn 'em from my friends fast enough.

Thanks for the tip Weesa on the blush rooms versus more expensive food. I really could not tell other than you get more food, but time versus amount? Bah! I will go back to the 'shrooms.

I look at the dragons for sale, check out their little flags for what they are 'made from' and experiment. It's gotten me some good mixes so far! Just wish we didn't have to buy the main element dragons. But now I have water, I can work my way to air. Just got to level 16 this morning. Find myself zipping in, click off, zip out.

Oh, my boost tree for the leafy habitats is awesome! Those were earning quick anyway, now they are zipping along quick with the earnings!

And I got an evergreen hatchling! Cutie pie!

I am so enjoying learning from both of you Samtibbs & Maxie, by reading up on the dragons and habitats as I visit! Pretty cool! Just bought a gem island too. Looking forward to more fun! I do have a couple extra habitats for possible dragons, did not want to be flat footed & not have a place to put them!

Weesa I'm looking forward to seeing your islands too!

Maxecat if you don't have the specific dragons listed for a race look at what elements they are then use a dragon from one of them.
Like for example the Ulster Meadows one you could use plant or earth or any hybrid from one of them and still come out good. If want to get a better reward in the Perch tasks you need to send in a dragon suited for the area it is being sent to. So if you don't have a Clover try a Moss or Tree. As for levels they keep adding new levels to the game every so often. I think there were only 50 when my nephew started playing.

Samtibbs I know what you mean I don't race when I'm saving either. I'm still trying for the Clover and Lapiz too. I would rather be like the pioneers myself, it's just not possible that they are enjoying the game as much as we are if they are paying for everything.

Karentia if you don't have a water dragon breed a fire with an air. Not sure how it works but at least you won't have to pay for it.

Don't forget to let Marisol and Val know about this thread they may enjoy sharing any tips they have too. I remember Val but not the other gal, what was her HPANA name?
