Post  Admin Fri Dec 30, 2011 1:56 pm

Had to look up a the honey recipes for Dad and thought I would re-post them here. So I started this thread for us to share all the home remedies have helped us.

"Facts Of Honey"

It is found that a mixture of Honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.
Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.
Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January,
1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.
Also those who already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack.
Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.
In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE:
Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours.
As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days.
This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:
According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks.
Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food, relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take 4 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, 3 to 4 times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a
20-year-old.

PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of Honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning 1/2 hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one-cup water. If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person.
Also, drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month 3 times a day.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body.
Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon power in equal parts, are more alert and flexible.
Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon.

I've always heard honey, especially honey locally processed was wonderful for all sorts of conditions, allergies being at the top of the list....and now you've added so much!

I know cinnamon is a powerhouse too but had never thought of taking them together ,but why not? I'll try it on Larry. He's got a head start since he likes honey. I'm not crazy about it.

The local bees were infected a couple of years ago by something that destroyed the queens and local beekeepers have been trying to reestablish hives.

Thanks for the interesting information,Weesa. I need to print this off for future reference.

I remember you posting a version of this in the Elder's Healing area. I have been taking 2 capsules of cinnamon a day. Don't know if it is helping me keep from getting heavier or not.

I should be taking the honey too. Oh wow, hit the wall. Going to bed in a few.

Home remedies from Devilish Katlyn(HPANA)
Cuts & Sores:

Put raw honey on a cut 1 to 4 times a day and cover with a bandage. It will heal quicker and block bacteria from growing.

Acne & Wrinkles:

Rinse your face with warm water to open pores. Apply a thin coat of honey over face. Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes. Wash it off, then splash your face with cool water to tighten pores up. If you have acne, dab raw honey directly onto the problem areas twice a day and leave it on.

Sore Throad & Colds:

Take 1 teaspoon of raw honey and let it melt in your mouth. Swallow, allowing it to coat your throat. Do not eat or drink anything for 15 minutes afterward, to allow the honey to remain concentrated. Do this 3 to 4 times a day, and it will shorten the life of a cold, or stop it in it's tracks if you start the treatment early enough. (consult your healer if you're diabetic)

Digestion

Mix 1/4 cup honey to 1/4 cup of apple cidar vinegar. Dilute with water to taste. This will aide in digestion. If you require larger or smaller quantities, simply keep the honey to vinegar ratio the same - 50/50.

COUGH SYRUP

1 cup of honey
Juice from 1 lemon
1/2 tablespoon menthol crystals
1/4 cup whiskey (Johnny Walker or Jack Daniels)

Warm the lemon juice and dissolve the menthol crystals. Add honey and cool. Next, add the whiskey. Put in bottle or jar and shake well.

This is not a recipe I'd recommend for young witches or wizards. And for my advanced potions students (21 or older), be careful when drinking this. No drinking and flying!

Energy Booster:

Honey Trail Mix Bars

4 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x15 inch pan. Combine the first four ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add vanilla, butter, honey and brown sugar. Beat with an electric mixer. Batter will be very heavy. Using a wooden spoon stir in remaining ingredients until well combined.

Press dough into prepared pan. Bake 20 -25 minutes until golden brown. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Cut into bars and cool completely before removing them from pan.

Apply freely over burns. It cools, removes pain and aids fast healing without scarring.

A teaspoon of honey before bed, aids water retention and calms fears in children.

Honey is the best blood enricher by raising corpuscle content. The darker the honey the more minerals it contains.

Cakes with honey replacing sugar stay fresher longer due to natural antibiotics. Reduce liquids by approx. one-fifth to allow for moisture in honey.

English research has shown that a teaspoon of honey per day aids calcium utilisation and prevents osteoporosis.

For allergies, find a local honey producer. It's vital that it be locally created. Take 2 tablespoons of local, unprocessed honey each day. After a couple of weeks, you'll notice the reduction of your allergies, and eventually it will be completely eliminated. A study in the 1990's by a doctor who's son was highly allergic to outdoor pollens showed that when he gave his child locally pollenated honey, his allergies were nearly gone after 30 days. The reason is that the bees bring small quantities of pollen with them and deposit it into the honey. If it's left natural, the pollen will remain in minute amounts. If you take it over the course of time, your body will become gradually immune to the pollen, eventually eliminating the allergies.

Note: Not all honey is alike. While most types of honey will work for the potions here, it is best to find unprocessed, or raw, honey. Raw honey has all the natural properties that offer the maximum benefits.

WARNING: Do NOT give honey to babies under 12 months old. It may contain spores that will cause infant botulism. Children & adults over 12 months usually develop a digestive tract that is not effected by the spores.

I have to agree and chuckle a litte over the statement that honey promotes a longer shelf life for baked goods...I haven't made them in years, but when I bake lebchuken (a cookie with honey and brandy in them) they can last unspoiled for at least 4 months, just in a regular plastic container.I'm not sure how long they'll last because by 4 months Larry's usually finished them off..he says the flavor improves the longer they last.

I really need to make some lebkuchen..it's a very old recipe with lots of ingredients and many steps. If you use the dried fruit,it's almost a fruitcake in cookie form but I usually use less of the fruit. it gets chewier as it ages.
It takes about 10 days for the batter to age before you bake the cookies.

My mom's version was also made from honey but the batter was lighter in texture and didn't take that long to make.I think they tasted better as they aged too. Maybe it's the honey.

Uses for coffee grounds and tea bags

Put coffee grounds into your garden to enrich the soil and break down clay. Eggs shells are good too.

tea bags are wonderful for feeding roses...just pop the old bag into the dirt and let nature break down the paper. Rose love tea like old southern ladies and it doesn't have to be iced.
Banana peels are a special treat for roses too. Even in winter they can be tucked under mulch and as it breaks down in spring roses will thank you.

Home Remedies Empty Onions

Post  missypotter Wed Nov 28, 2012 4:46 pm

Apparently this link didn't post. I will try again. Embarassed

ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor
that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the
flu..
.
Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was
very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was
different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a
dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The
doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions
and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did
this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the
bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard
this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of
her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her
customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in
her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. Try
it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who
regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with
this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the
reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I
contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came
across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an
empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said
the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it
happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel
better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions
and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years
ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note. Lots of times when we have stomach problems we
don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame.
Onions absorb bacteria is the reason they are so good at preventing us
from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we shouldn't eat an
onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS CAN BE POISONOUS

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers
of mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to
share what I learned from a chemist.

Ed, who was our tour
guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we
really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that
mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all
commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even
have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not
really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a
point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then
talked about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on
the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets
sick.

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first
thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and
where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not
the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the
outdoors. It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the
POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria,
especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a
sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock
bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated
enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger
to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs
at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook
it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover
onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the
onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow
bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break
down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut an onion and try to use it to
cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night
and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections
because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

So many of us struggle with infections this may be good. I also read some instances in history where people have had success with this.

Thanks missypotter for posting the onions remedy. However, this is controversial, and snopes.com

I still think onions are good for you. Do you know that they are an ancient food? The workers on the pyramids were at least partially paid with onions.

I'm interested in trying the onion thing - but keep forgetting to buy one when I am ill - tend to not want to leave the house, and I don't keep onions around. Oh, well.

So far the 2 capsules of cinnamon a day have not helped for the illnesses - but then I have not made them up in tea with honey. Have to add that other half. And no fly for eating cinnamon powder - really not a good idea for me anyway. Burns without anything else, unless it's in the capsules. Then I can pop them in all day long! Really need to get some good, local honey. There are two main sellers in the valley... both closed for the season. Spring will be here before we know it! bounce

Thanks for the post Magical Music Dreamer...I keep rosemary in both herb and essential oil form around.I love using rosemary in cooking and adding the oil to a steam bath when trying to unclog my lungs is great. I love the spicy scent.
I've made ginger tea and sliced ginger and mustard for a mustard pack for my chest...it increased blood flow like mad but the infection was too set in to respond and I needed medicine...but the pack felt great. I imagine I smelled like Chinese take away.

I never knew the good properties of parsley. I only thought it pretty decoration and maybe a breath freshener after eating Italian food.

dried ground mint has kept mice out of the house.

I love finding out new things like this. If I don't copy the information onto index cards I tend to forget..I keep a stack by the computer just for occasions like this.
